Sanibonani. My name is Mpumelelo Zamokuhle Zulu, a dedicated social scientist and scholar-activist from eMalahleni in Mpumalanga. I am working to bridge the gap between academic research and grassroots advocacy. A singular mission drives my work: the liberation of people across the African continent and beyond. Navigating the world as a black, bisexual, Zulu man, I commit to being a "trouble-maker" who challenges established norms and empowers voices from the margins of society through transformative research, activism, and teaching.
Currently completing my doctoral research at the University of Cape Town, I sit at the intersection of Psychology and African Feminist Studies. My scholarship is defined by the "Isintu-Oriented Decolonial Queer" approach, a theoretical lens I conceptualised to interrogate human sexuality, identity, and cultural dynamics through Indigenous African insights.
Born into a lineage of indigenous healing practitioners and community leaders, I learned to view "home" as a place of refuge and healthcare for my community. Servitude, truth, justice and love are values engawancela ebeleni (that nurtured me from birth); they hold together the fabric of my identity. Whether through my published research in Feminist Africa or my appearances in the public sphere (via podcasts and national television), I am committed to making the world a more just place.
Beyond the work, I am an old soul: a poet and painter who performs rituals to reestablish harmony with the natural world
